Airlie Beach
is a major tourist destination with a wide range Airlie Beach Accommodation
Resorts, Hotels, Motels, Backpackers and Apartments. The Actual town has many
attractions to speak of, though its beach is small and
the sea is inhabited by marine stingers (a type of Jelly
Fish) from November to May. In order to provide
somewhere for the hoards of visiting tourist to swim,
the local council has built a swimming lagoon on the foreshore.
Airlie
Beach is known as the Heart of Australia's Great
Barrier Reef. Airlie Beach and the nearby Whitsunday
Islands enjoy a tropical climate and life style. Each
year the residents of Airlie Beach celebrate the
blessing of the fleet on whit Sunday or Pentecost
Sunday. Now in its sixteenth year (2005) the blessing
was started by Father Keith Felgate and Captain Dan Van
Blarcom. Together with the adjacent Shute Harbour,
provide an embarkation point for both the Whitsunday
Islands and the Great Barrier Reef
